Looking Desperately (Before Breaking Point)

[/color] He moved to inspect when his friend rolled his eyes and did just that, and frowned when it turned out that he hadn't been (but there was a level of relief - why would he want it if Penk had been sitting on it, after all?). Frantic for a moment, he looked all about and once he about dug the foxhole deeper - gave up. "Fuck." At Penkala's questioning look, he shrugged. "I lost my spoon. Damnit. Okay." He stood, already forming a plan. "I'm gunna go pull a Doc Roe and go see if anyone has an extra one."

He didn't wait for an answer as he was scooting out of the cozy hole to go in search, hands under his pits and nose wrinkled against the cold. The most logical place to check first was the mess, and it turned up empty. Evidently, everyone's cutlery was with them, on hand, for now, until they could get clean ones. Or something, Skip wasn't quite sure. He wasn't paying that close attention. Off he went again, trudging, a hand moving to adjust his shot-at-to-hell helmet. Damn thing didn't know how to stay steady when he moved. An idle thought occured to him that maybe he should tighten it, but the next moment, he was slipping into someone's foxhole. Like he was on autopilot.

"Hey, got an extra spoon?" He asked, looking around. He needed some form of entertainment, and spoons were great accomplices. A lick to the dip of it, and then sticking it on someone's nose? In the cold? That was priceless quality stuff right there. "That you haven't used? Or something?"[/ul]

Babe jumped when he felt the presence of the another person in his foxhole. He looked and saw Skip. "What in the hell do you a need a spoon for?" He asked with a slight chuckle. He was used to random people joining him in his foxhole, but he did enjoy the company from time to time. He was used to have Julian around but since he was killed he felt lonely, since the guy did like to talk.

[/i] let him stretch his legs when he was in it. "...Stuff. Do you got one or not?" He shuddered at a breeze that crawled around his neck, but despite it, grinning. "Cuz you know I will find if you have one. And think up some devious plot to charm it out of you. I am capable of such things, Babe."

Poor kid, loosin' his foxhole buddy. It wouldn't hurt to just, sort of hang around for a bit. Boost up his cheer, amuse him if he could. Penkala would live without him for a while.[/ul]

"Yeah I got one, and its clean." Babe went through his stuff and retrived his unused spoon and handed it to Skip. He shivered as the breeze come through his foxhole. He crossed his arms, attempting to stay warm, which was nearly impossible. He then fished out his smokes and lit it up, and offered one to Skip. Smoking was pretty much the only bad habit babe had picked up since joining the paratroopers. He secretly hoped Skip would stick around for a little bit to ease his loneliness, but he definitly didn't expect him to that for sure.

Joe laughed slightly as he listened to Skip and Babe's conversation, but his laugh instantly turned to wisps of silvery smoke. He was shaking like mad, and those army jackets they were issued for this weather, we either way too light, or they had walked their way from earth to freezing Pluto.

[/color] Skip didn't even understand the fixation with spoons himself, but they always just seemed to perk his look up a bit, give him a bit of an air that could make people snicker when they saw it tucked on the button-hole of his uniform. He nudged it there, and after reviewing it for a moment in satisfaction, held his hand out to take the offered cig.

"Thanks. Got a light to go with, mick?" He wondered if Babe had gotten some new foxhole buddy. He was aware of his stay with others after the first few nights of losing poor Julian, but otherwise had kept to himself over the guy's business. However, his curiosity got the best of him. "You been huddling in on your own now?" Agh, not the best way to ask, but he tried.

He looked about at a familiar laugh, grinning slightly himself around his unlit smoke, and scratched under his helmet at the back of his head.[/ul]

Babe handed Skip his lighter and took a puff from his smoke, and briefly looking up at the night sky. It tended to relax him a bit, since it was nice view, when the sky was clear. Skips question made him look back down. He was sure most of the guys probably thought he was being alone on purpose but he really wasnt. "Well I'm hoping maybe someone will join me, but for now I am." Babe did try not to think about Julian, but it was hard. He remembered when he told babe he was a virgin, it was a sin to see someone so young die.

He then heard a familiar laugh and knew exactly who it was, Joe Toye.

[/i]."[/color] He teased, grinning, a hand gently pushing at Babe's shoulder. The story of the Philly Boy falling into the German's hole never failed to amuse him, and hopefully, it was mutual for Babe. If push came to shove, though, he would find a way to coerce Penkala into the idea of a third foxhole buddy. Malarkey seemed to be jumping about recently, and with all the pranks they'd been playing on him - he rightly couldn't blame him.[/ul]

Babe couldnt help but laugh at Skips sttempt at a german accent. He smiled for the first time in what seemed like forever. He needed to feel something..the war was definitly starting to really get to him beyond recognition. "What would I do without your teasing and jokes." He grinned and finished off his smoke.

Don walked through the line, on the thin strip of land that wasn't being used as a foxhole, before he spotted Joe Toye huddled in his foxhole, all by his lonesome. Walking forward, the snow crunching under his feet, he reached the foxhole, and dropped inside, landing beside Toye, who jumped slightly.
" What's the word, Joe?" Don asked, his words evaporating into silvery smoke and drifting off into the cold, unforgiving air.

[/color] He lived a shivering hand to measure about three inches between his thumb and forefinger. "Just like that." He felt cheeky. This was good. This was nostalgic, and he'd like to keep himself in this state of mind, despite the location and the temperature. And if he could spread it, then... well. Balancing his smoke in his mouth, he gathered snow from the mouth of the foxhole, rolling it into a ball as he heard what couldn't be mistaken as anyone else's voice than Malark's in the foxhole near them.

In the end, at least his analogy hadn't been too bad.[/ul]

[Joe Toye]

Joe smirked as Malarkey crashed into the foxhole. He wasn't the most graceful when it came to foxhole entry...or walking, for that matter. " Nothin' much, Malark. Just listenin' to Muckand Bade bullshit around." Joe said, loud enough for Muck and Babe to hear, seeing as they were a few holes over. He was teasing, of course, but with Toye, things can easily be misconstrude.

He let out a little laugh at Skips comment. He definitly enjoyed anyones company at this point, to get his mind off the state all the men were in at this point in the war. He just wanted the war to end so he could get back home, and far away from this place as he could. He listened as another voice rang in the dead of the night. The quietness sometimes got to babe, but he knew sooner or later an artillary strike would happen.
"The view of the night sky is so beautiful..if it wasnt so cold I'd say it was a beautiful night." Babe tried his best to keep his sprits high despite their current situation.

[/color] He raised his voice only slightly so it would carry, and as his lips closed around the last syllable of the sentence, he tossed the snow ball over his head, hoping it'd land in the fox-hole and on one of the two. Did he just declare playful war? Of course.[/ul]

[Joe Toye]

" Hey! What the hell?!" Joe exclaimed as a rather large ball of freezing snow collided with his shoulders, exploding on impact and leaving snow on his jacket. Joe shivered slightly as he felt the coldness of the snow through the jacket. Scooting forward, Joe poked his head over the top of his foxhole, looking around, before he spotted Muck's grinning face.
" You're dead, Muck." Joe grinned.
