Roe couldn't hold back his emotions anymore. The sights and sounds of those girls singing were bringing out everything he'd ever felt during the war. He left the abbey chapel to stand outside. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it. He took a drag to calm himself. He was so occupied in his own mind he didn't notice Speirs come up behind him.

Tab relaxed against the hard wood of the church pews, though nothing about him could relax. It had been one of the hardest losses Easy had seen since the war began, and it hit home with everyone. Skip and Penkala had been a vital part of Easy, as were Hoobler, Toye and Guarnere, each of them now gone. It felt empty, as the rest of the survivors sat in the church, listening to the choir girls sing for their entertainment. No one could really enjoy it, however. The loss was weighing on everyone's mind, whether they admitted it or not.

"Everything alright, doc?" Ron asked, watching Roe with a searching gaze. He knew, all the men were tired and exhausted after what they came through, but there was something else in Roe's expression. Ron lit his own cigarette and stood beside him.

Roe wasn't entirely sure about Speirs but he felt he could trust him enough to confide about his thoughts. "Sir, It's the images in my head. The ghosts that haunt my dreams. That singing of hope in there makes me relive the nightmares of Bastogne. All I see are men dying because I wasn't able to save them. I can't take it anymore."

"I understand," Ron nodded slowly and took a drag on his smoke. "But you can't blame yourself for their death. They died because of this war, not because of you," he said and then looked back to the chapel. "Many of the men inside are still alive, because you saved them. That's something, you can be proud of." He offered him a smile.

Roe smiled back and sighed, "I guess you're right. I just can't help but feel responsible for their deaths all the same. I haven't slept more than an hour a night just because I know if I do the ghosts will return."

"Well, if you don't get some sleep soon, you will look like a ghost yourself," Ron replied, looking at him through the smoke. "The men will need you alive, doc."

Roe smiled slightly at the joke Speirs made but said, "This be true but how do you propose i do so if I can't for fear of the dreams?"

"Sometimes, we have to face our fears, doc," Ron said quietly. "I would think, you knew it already. I am sure, you had to face them many times before." He finished his smoke and threw the rest to the ground. "Why don't you get back inside and give it a try?"

Roe nodded and said, "Thanks sir!"
