"Keep your mouth covered as much as possible... It will keep you from breathing as much cold air in which will irritate your lungs more and help cause pneumonia. Now let me look at your feet."

" Come on, Doc." Joe said, tilting his head to one side as though asking why.

"No questions Joe! Do as I say and you won't end up like poor Skinny over there."

Joe's jaw clenched, but he walked over to a near by fallen log, and sat down. He extended his leg, holding his foot out to Roe.

Roe looked at both of Joe's feet slowly. What he observed wasn't good.

Joe watched as Roe examined his feet, his jaw still clenched, though it was because of the intense cold he was feeling, not annoyance. " You done?" he asked after a moment.

Roe looked up at the hotheaded sergeant and replied angrily, "I would get done faster if you'd put a sock in it for a bit! Now stow it!"

Joe raised an eyebrow, but as he opened his mouth to respond, he let out pained grown as Roe touching his foot, yanking it back slightly.

"See what I mean... it shouldn't hurt that bad with trench foot."

Joe's eyes narrowed, before he reached down for his blankets and began wrapping them back around his aching foot. "What is it, then?" he asked through his teeth, looking up to Roe.

"That's what I'm trying to figure out. Trench foot would make your feet numb. You just felt pain when I touched your foot. This is odd."

Malarkey walked through the ground dotted with foxholes, looking for someone with a cigarette. He sighed, almost giving up hope, having tried Perconte, Luz and Penk, before spotting Joe. As he walked closer, though, he noticed the pained look on the male's face. " You alright, Joe?" Malarkey asked as he stopped beside Roe.

Roe looked towards Malarkey and said, "I though he had trench foot but his feet aren't numb but they're in pain and look like they're frostbit but they ain't numb. My only option left is hypothermia. It starts witht he appendages including feet and legs."

Malarkey made a face as Roe explained what he thought Toye had. He didn't all the gory details. " Alright, alright, I got the idea...any of you guys have a smoke?" he asked, looking from Toye to Roe.

Roe sighed and said, "I got a few. Let me dig one out." Roe reached in his pocket for one of his remaining smokes. He grabbed one and held it out to Malarkey.
