Skinny's eyes nearly popped out of his head as he looked at Roe, bewildered, yet extremely happy. " Did you find out what it was?" Skinny asked, finding himself intrigued by Roe's story, enough to climb half-way out of his foxhole to hear better.

Skinny was out of his foxhole and on his feet in a matter of seconds. " What was it?" the male asked, looking to to Roe with intense curiosity.

Roe looked at the ground and said quietly, "She's pregnant."

Skinny's mouth dropped. "Are you serious?" he asked in a low tone, filled with awe. In awe that Roe had gotten a woman pregnant. He never expected that. He better get some bonus cash for that!

Roe could feel tears fall down his face as he said, "She sent word not long after we jumped into Holland. I told her I would take care of her and the baby after the war. I'm not ready for this."

Skinny's excited expression fell when he noticed that Roe was crying. " Aww, Gene. I'm real sorry for bringin' it up." Skinny said, moving forward and placing a shaking hand on the medic's shoulder.

Roe wiped the tears from his face and said quietly, "It's ok. Bout' time people knew. I just worry about my life and whether or not my unborn child will ever meet me."

Skinny didn't know what to say. He had never seen Roe like this, and to be honest, he didn't like it. He didn't like his friends feeling down.

Roe just looked at the ground in silence. He hadn't felt this scared since he'd heard the news from Vera.

" Well, I'll split my money with you, when the guys pony it up." Skinny said, trying to lighten the mood. But he soon regretted it, since he had told Roe he wasn't in on the pool.

Roe turned to Skinny who as soon as he'd said his last words looked guiltily. He shook his head and said, "I don't mind if you're in the pool. I don't mind you guys making money off of my personal affairs. All I care is that I can get through this war."

Skinny paused, before clapping Roe on the shoulder. " Look on the bright side...you're going to be a father!" Skinny said with a smile, shaking Roe's shoulder lightly.

Skinny made a face. " That's up to you." he said, before looking at Roe once more, and turning on his heel. He hadn't realized how cold it had gotten since he left his foxhole, and his whole body shook as he walked back to it.
